Thornbury & Yate MP Claire Young has urged the Chief Secretary to the Treasury Darren Jones to extend the funding for half-hourly trains via Yate as part of the upcoming Spending Review, warning that without it the future of the new Charfield station could be put at risk. Commenting, Ms Young said:

"The announcement of new capital funding for the West of England is welcome but will mean little if the actual transport links that people use day in, day out face further cutbacks.

“Funding for half-hourly trains to Yate has made services more frequent, reduced overcrowding, and will provide a service for the new station at Charfield.

“However, this funding is set to run out next year – before Charfield station even opens. The reduction in service would have a big impact on commuters.

“For months I have been fighting to get this funding extended. I hope this week the Government will finally listen and do so in the Spring Statement.”
