MP gets local gin ‘pride of place’ spot in Parliament

A Thornbury gin distiller has been given a special spot as the official guest gin in the House of Commons this week thanks to a recommendation from local MP Claire Young.
6 O’clock gin, based in Thornbury, has a long history in the area and produces several different gins – with their flagship Dry Gin being known for its iconic Bristol-blue bottle.
Thornbury & Yate MP Claire Young met the company last year and nominated the gin to feature in the official House of Commons bar after the General Election to bring a taste of South Gloucestershire to Westminster.
She joined the Managing Director of 6 O’clock Gin Paul Sullivan in Parliament this week to officially debut the gin and raise a glass to celebrate the company’s success in recent years.
Commenting Claire Young MP said:
“Our area is known for so many amazing products and produce, especially local drink makers. 6 O’clock Gin is a great example of the talent we have in this part of the world.
“It’s great to see it given pride of place in Parliament, so everyone can get a taste of what makes our communities special. I know from the staff that it’s already going down a treat.
“As Thornbury’s MP, it was a real privilege to be able to debut the gin and raise a glass to all the company has achieved, and to what lies ahead.”
Paul Sullivan, Managing Director of 6 O’clock Gin, added:
“It’s a pleasure and a privilege to be able to bring our gin to the heart of Government and my thanks to Claire for her support in this and in the challenges that face the drinks industry going forward.
“There are a plethora of amazing craft food and drink producers in the Thornbury & Yate area and we are grateful to have the opportunity to showcase what we can produce by delivering a moments solace in the frenetic surrounds of Parliament.”
