Thornbury & Yate MP Claire Young has slammed Royal Mail for widely missing its delivery targets, with a few as 70.3% of first-class deliveries being delivered on time, well below the 93% target.

Just 70.3% of first-class deliveries being handled by the Gloucester regional hub were delivered on time, with just 74.4% of first-class deliveries handled by the Bristol regional hub arriving on time. This means more than a quarter of local deliveries arrived later than they were meant to.

The Liberal Democrat MP has called for greater accountability on missed targets to help improve parcel delivery and turn around a service that is “failing people”. They also called on the regulator OFCOM to step in and “act on these unacceptable delays”.

Claire Young MP said:

“These missed targets are shocking and are leaving countless people in the lurch across our area. People rely on timely deliveries to go about their lives and should not be forced to put up with this disruption.

“This saga has been going on for far too long and people are rightly sick to the back teeth of it. It is time OFCOM stepped in to act on these unacceptable delays and hold this failing service to account for letting local people down.

“I will continue to do everything in my power to pressure Royal Mail into turning this around so people in our area can finally get the service they expect and deserve.”
