Severn Vale ward

News & information from your local South Gloucestershire Liberal Democrat campaigners

The Severn Vale Liberal Democrats are a very experienced and enthusiastic group of local volunteers who are determined to improve life in the ward. Councillor Tony Williams has a long track record of public service in the Severn Vale ward area, and prominent activist Mark Oaten has more that 20 years' experience of both national and local government. Protecting and improving bus services, and the provision of improved local amenities — especially health services — feature prominently in their campaigning. The protection of the local environment, and addressing the Climate Emergency, are themes that influence many aspects of this work. Like other South Gloucestershire Liberal Democrats they champion a Council that is responsive and accountable to the Public.

Electorally, Severn Vale ward is close-fought between the Tories and the Liberal Democrats. In the 2023 local elections Tony Williams topped the poll, with Mark Oaten coming within 100 votes of un-seating a long-standing Conservative councillor. Overall, the Liberal Democrats won the ward, receiving 47% of the popular vote compared to 45% for the Conservatives.
