Save our buses

First Bus have made major cuts to bus services from the Yate and Chipping Sodbury area to Southmead Hospital, Parkway Station and the UWE
Frenchay Campus. Local champion Claire Young and the Lib Dem Focus Team have launched a campaign to force Tory-controlled South Glos Council to Save Our Buses.

You can see the full details of the changes on the South Glos Council website here - the relevant services are 81, 82 and 16 and the changes take effect on 4th September.

In summary:

● Chipping Sodbury, and the villages between there and Wotton-under-edge, have lost their direct link to Southmead Hospital and Parkway Station.
● The frequency of the buses from Yate to Southmead Hospital and Parkway Station, via Coalpit Heath and Frampton Cotterell, has been halved.
● Almost all the direct buses from Yate to the University of the West of England have been cut, leaving just one "school time" direct service per day in each
direction, running only on school days. Passengers from Yate now need to change buses at Downend or Parkway and passengers from Chipping Sodbury
need to change twice.

These changes will worsen parking and traffic problems at Southmead Hospital and Parkway, increase journey times and travel costs and restrict access to
employment and education.

We,the undersigned, call upon South Gloucestershire Council to work with local bus operators to reinstate these bus services.
