Taking a big step towards a greener future, Liberal Democrat led South Gloucestershire Council has announced the expansion of its plastic recycling program. This initiative aims to make it easier for more households to recycle plastic bags and wrapping.

Following a successful start in October 2022, where almost 2,000 homes participated, the program is now growing to include an additional 20,000 households. This means more areas, both urban and rural, will be able to recycle plastic waste right from their doorstep.

Since the trial began, over 19 tonnes of plastic bags and wrappers have been collected. These materials are being responsibly processed in UK recycling facilities, showing commitment to reducing waste and protecting the environment.

Cllr Claire Young, Leader of South Gloucestershire Council said “This expansion of our plastic recycling initiative marks a significant step forward in our commitment to environmental sustainability. By making it easier for more households to recycle, we're not only reducing waste but also paving the way for a greener future for South Gloucestershire."

Residents are encouraged to get involved and make use of the resources provided for plastic recycling. For those not part of the trial, supermarkets offer alternative recycling options.
