Thornbury Open Letter - Crossways Field

Did you get Bloor Homes' Crossways leaflet?

We did, and we couldn't believe it.

Thornbury Lib Dem Councillors Jayne Stansfield and Maggie Tyrrell both live opposite the Crossways Field development site, and received this unbelievable leaflet from the developers entitled Land at Crossways: Which Way Forward.

Stunned by the way the developer is trying to justify even more housing for Thornbury when the town is already overwhelmed, even though the site isn't earmarked for housing, Maggie and Jayne are writing to John Bloor, the company Director, and are inviting anybody who also received this leaflet to sign it with them.

Did you get a copy? Then let Bloor Homes hear what you really think.

Dear Mr. Bloor,

We wish to express out deep concern about a leaflet delivered to Thornbury residents with the title "Land at Crossways: Which Way Forward?"

In our opinion, the only reason this leaflet has been delivered is to manipulate residents into accepting a lucrative housing development on land specifically set aside for another purpose, so that your company can make more profit while our town suffers from excessive development and no plan for the facilities to cope with it. We are sure other areas of the country are desperately in need of your company's development expertise and would welcome you, but we don't think Thornbury is ready for more at this time.

Thornbury has more than enough housing and plenty more of it is planned, but we do not have the facilities to cope. This is why the Joint Spatial Plan has identified sites to set aside for employment and facilities. Crossways Field isn't suitable for either residential or industrial development, but to even suggest squeezing another 150 houses into the space without accounting for where the facilities could come from instead is an insult.

Bloor Homes has already developed Thornbury Fields and benefited from our town. We are writing to ask you to reconsider your Crossways plan, accept that green spaces are an essential aspect of healthy living and allow these much valued rural lanes to continue to be used for the leisure pursuits they are now.

Yours sincerely,

Cllr. Maggie Tyrrell, (Thornbury South & Alveston, South Gloucestershire Council, Lib Dem)

Cllr. Jayne Stansfield (North East Ward, Thornbury Town Council, Lib Dem)
